Learn to feel free from work and Stop saying you "have to" work when on vacation.

written by Peter O.

Yesterday, I ditched work early to spend some time with my family and I'm not going back to work until Tuesday.

You know what? I'm not going to check my email until Tuesday either. I'm not going to reply to work texts or calls. I'm going to do zero work.

You know why I'm not going to pay attention AT ALL to work? Because I can. Do you know how I got to this point? Because I chose to.

When people view my current work situation, they say "I would never be able to do that, I'd have to pay attention to my email at least." I believe that most of the time that is true... in their current situation. But I also believe that a "current" situation doesn't have to stay that way forever.

If that is how your role is now, choose to change it. As a small business owner, you're the boss after all.

Most of the time you have to work (email, text, sms) when your on a break because you've designed your role that way. Even in highly variable/demanding markets, its still YOUR ROLE and you have control over it.

Just remember, before you can feel free to leave your work behind, you first have to change what you believe about work.
